Menopause can have a big impact on our mental health.
Millions of us will go through the menopause every year, often facing low mood, anxiety, brain fog, and difficulty sleeping, among other things.
Coping with these symptoms can have a negative impact on our everyday lives, particularly our experiences at work. A Bupa study found that almost 1 million women have left their jobs because of menopausal symptoms and CIPD research revealed around 1 in 6 people (17%) have considered quitting work due to a lack of support.
The problem? We’re not talking about it enough. Despite the menopause affecting over half the working population, it remains a taboo topic in many workplaces and is not always taken seriously. Many people don’t realise how distressing the menopause can be, leaving those experiencing it feeling dismissed or expected to “just put up with it."
